Medical Stop Loss – Specialty Claim Unit (SCU)
The Specialty Claim Unit (SCU) receives
external and internal referrals for
transplant and related conditions as well as
those involving neo-natal patients. By
interacting with TPAs, case managers and
some Employer Groups, SCU works toward early
case intervention for the purpose of
establishing cost-saving measures.
Because transplant and neo-natal patients
can require multi-faceted care, SCU helps to
coordinate savings for each stage and phase
of care. Any reduction in costs helps
preserve patient lifetime maximums, while
reducing costs to the Plan.
Upon contact, the staff evaluates the
submitted information and initiates
referrals for charges to the appropriate
vendor(s).
