HCC Life Enhances Claims Department with Addition of New Departments

HCC Life Insurance Company (HCC Life) recently established a new organizational structure for the departments managing cost-saving measures which were previously identified as HCCL Solutions, Notification and Re-pricing.  Effective April 10, 2006, these units now function under the HCC Life Claims department and assume the names Specialty Claim Unit and Preliminary Claim Unit.  This new approach will better centralize and streamline cost-saving initiatives and increase efficiency. HCC Life Insurance Company is proud to introduce Self-Funding Success, a new series that demonstrates claims-saving initiatives from HCC Life's new claims departments, Preliminary Claim Unit (PCU) and Specialty Claim Unit (SCU). These departments work diligently to save our mutual clients money.  HCC Life provides two success stories in which the PCU department recognized savings through the use of HCC Life's preferred vendors. Spending on Specialty Pharmaceuticals Reaches New Highs

The importance of tracking utilization and spending on specialty pharmaceuticals is highlighted in a recent Health Affairs report.  Specialty pharmaceuticals are frequently characterized as injectables, infusions or aerosolized products that require special handling and administration. Classically, these drugs were not managed by traditional PBMs because the drugs required refrigeration, exhibited a short half-life and required medical oversight for administration, identification of side effects and compliance.  Read more.
