Diversified Concepts, Inc. (DCI) is an employer benefits consultant firm based in New York, N.Y., with an additional office in Scottsdale, Ariz. Although a relatively young company (founded in February 1993), DCI has firmly established itself in the stop loss market due to complete client commitment and follow-through. From the initial contact with the employer to employees’ basic plan questions, DCI specializes in custom designing benefit programs for employers that put and keep them in control of their programs and related costs.

Experience Rating Large Groups
When prospecting business in the market place, underwriting philosophies can change depending on the number of covered lives a group may present. The categories that separate these philosophies are small groups (50 to 150 lives), standard groups (150 to 1,000 lives) and large group (1,000 lives plus).

Subrogation – Litigation Update, Knudson & After
On January 8th, 2002, the United States Supreme Court handed down the case of Great West v. Knudson, 122 S. Ct. 708 (2002). The case focused on the issue of what remedies are available to welfare benefit plans that are attempting to enforce the terms of the plan under ERISA. The Knudson case arose in the context of a plan trying to enforce a subrogation/reimbursement provision requiring a plan participant to repay to the plan monies that the plan expended for personal injury related care.
